Want to stop Harper? The Liberals didn’t get it done.
Over the last two years, the Liberal team of Stephane Dion and local
leadership hopeful Michael Ignatieff voted with Stephen Harper in 43
key votes in the House of Commons. Under Dion’s weak leadership:
• Passing a reckless $50 billion corporate tax giveaway (June 9, 2008
and on April 2, 2008)
• Voted to extend the combat mission in Afghanistan
• Passed regressive changes to immigration law
• Defeated a series of measures to help the manufacturing and forestry
sector
Michael Ignatieff, the current MP,
has not been a strong voice for the interests of Etobicoke Lakeshore.

The Conservative Economic Plan Fails for Families
Stephen Harper claims our economic fundamentals are strong, but while
the Conservatives have been in power:
• a quarter million manufacturing jobs lost.
• $50 billion squandered on across-the-board corporate tax cuts
• Passed a budget which increased taxes in the lowest income bracket
Failed Leadership on the Global Stage
Stephen Harper has said that Canada is ‘building capacity’
internationally, but under his leadership, Canada’s stature on the
world stage has been diminished:
• Stood alone when he tried to block agreement in 2006 on an
international program to take action on climate change – and will
continue to subsidize oil and gas companies to the tune of $1.4 billion
per year
• Spends $8 on fighting in Afghanistan for every $1 spent on
humanitarian development there
• Spending on foreign aid has fallen under his watch, despite
parliamentary support for significantly increased support

What a rally! The crowd cheered Broadbent when he announced this is
to be a new historic high for the New Democrats. "From one end of the
country to the other, from Nova Scotia to Iqualuit, from Vancouver
Island to Gatineua Quebec, from all over the GTA to yes, yes, Edmonton
Alberta, Canadians are choosing the New Democrats!
